You know who doesn't have a choice? The guys who were brainwashed every day of their training into believing that dying for the Republic is their destiny. That it's good to do that. That the Jedi are the only ones worthy enough to tell us when we go to die and how.

Do you really think the Republic would let us go? They own us. You enforce that. That's why you all need to stand down, resign your commissions, or die. That way the ends the war quicker, and fewer clones get fed into the meat grinder on your piss-poor orders.

Without a war to fight in, what cause would they have not releasing you from duty? There are plenty of senators who are ready to advocate for you once the war is over.

One resignation wouldn't matter in the face of the entire Jedi Order. I am replaceable. The Council won't make a move to extract the order from their posts right now.
